CLEVELAND COUNTY WELCOME TO RISON Rison’s centerpiece is the Cleveland County Court- house, a stately building where you can study the architecture of another era. Filled with history and dis- tinction, the courthouse has been declared a land- mark and is listed on the National Register of Historical Buildings. PIONEER VILLAGE Pioneer Village is a complete restoration of a south Arkansas community during the late 1800’s and turn of the century. You will be transferred back to the time of the early settlers with a visit to the one-room log cabin with smoke- house and herb gar- den. Other buildings include a Methodist Episcopal Church built in 1867, a country mer- cantile store which sells handmade crafts and related items, a Victorian home and a blacksmith shop complete with anvil, bellows and all the tools of the trade. All buildings are listed on the National Register. At nearby Kingsland, visit the birthplace of the town’s native son, country music superstar, Johnny Cash. THE SALINE RIVER Meandering through most of Arkansas, the Saline River is home to some of the best fishing in the state and runs the length of Cleveland County. Whether it’s bass, crappie, bluegill or catfish, you’re sure to catch your limit. If hunting, scenery, forests and the great outdoors are what you pre- fer, Cleveland County is the place for you to visit. 62
