BAYOU BARTHOLOMEW This waterway with an imperceptable current is the longest bayou in the world, originating near Midway, just west of Pine Bluff in Jefferson County and meandering 364 miles through Lincoln, Desha, Drew, Chicot and Ashley counties in Arkansas as it makes its lazy way to Morehouse Parish, LA, where it empties into the Ouachita River. Until the advent of steam trains in the 1890s, this was the most important transportation route in the region, and it enabled the development of lumber and agricul- ture industries along its route. Now a peaceful and picturesque waterway, it is the perfect destination for birders and anglers, it passes through remote areas of Southeast Arkansas, with con- venient access near Pine Bluff and Star City. CANE CREEK STATE PARK The park offers 29 complete camp sites, fishing, picnicking, hik- ing/biking, trails, the Visitors Center and many more recreational opportunities. Cane Creek’s shallow, timber-filled lake provides an excellent habitat for bass, crappie, catfish and bream. The park is located on Highway 293 off of Highway 425 at the southern end of Star City.
